It's only Wednesday! I so wish it was the weekend. I have tons of things to do!!

== Here's a picture of the diaper cake my little sister Lani sent me. It didn't arrive in time for my surprise shower. Super cute! ==

Preparing someone for my job while I'm out on maternity leave is the pits. I'm hoping the person is capable and understands my job wears many hats in the office. Thankfully, our office has switched over to a new phone system and I have that down packed! I love getting new electronic devices...its that feeling of learning new things and all of its neat features.

Other than work-related stuff, we still have yet to find the hardware to our crib. But, hey we got the bassinet ready and I've washed most of the linens and will be working on washing new baby clothes and some of Evan's hand-me-downs. Then there's the cleaning and rearranging of furniture in the spare room (soon-to-be Jacob's room). I've got majority of Evan's smaller-sized clothes organized in labeled bins. It's just the matter of putting them neatly in the closet.

As a family of three, we went to the Greatest Show on Earth - R&B Circus this past weekend. It was well worth it. If you're a friend who is reading this and despises the circus - don't hate me! We thought long and hard about taking Evan and the circus is a childhood memory for both Cy and I. So, we thought Evan would enjoy it - which he did. Had great seats and was mesmerized throughout the entire show. Ask him what was his favorite part of the show...he'll say the elephants and tigers and dogs -- the boy just loves animals! Here he is with his laser toy he got at the circus.

And speaking of animals, I picked up some really cool-looking valentine's day cards with animals for his classmates at school. He's so excited about it. We're going to modify his V-day cards a little bit -- I'll have a picture after we finish. He's just super excited!!

I'm making mini cupcakes for his class and had to run out to Michael's last night after I picked Evan up from school to get some of the cute mini cupcake liners. Whatta ya know...of all nights, they were making a kids craft. How can we pass that up. Here's what Evan made at Michael's - a valentine's day bag.

Come on weekend....get here already!!

Another Surprise!

Blessed to have a job - very BLESSED to have coworkers showing me some love today!

The infamous, "Everyone, please meet in the conference room for a meeting," blared over the page system. Of course, everyone heads downstairs w/notepads and pens ready for a meeting. Wow -- the conference room table is decorated with a baby boy theme, nice big bowl of fruit and pretty silver tray garnished with brownies and petit fours -- all in my honor. Time is definitely ticking and I’m getting more and more anxious every day. I just read a mommy blog – and most of these mommy’s have their hospital bags packed and ready to go! Erg! Makes me think what the heck? Am I supposed to have my hospital bag ready to go too? I feel like the lyrics from the Black Eyed Peas song, Boom, Boom, Pow….”I’m so 3008, you so 2000 and late”. I’m not BOOM, BOOM, POWING the pregnancy prep!

I had the most wonderful surprise on Sunday. There are not enough words to express the way I felt on Sunday. Our friend’s Lauralee and Carl invited us over for lunch after church. We hadn’t seen their house since they moved from their apartment at the end of last year. I told her we would bring a pitcher of sweet tea – if someone invites us over….we simple HAVE to bring something – never empty-handed. I was just raised that way. So, she said that was fine.

Little did I know that she and all of my close friends, mom and husband had other plans for me that day.

We showed up like 10 minutes late (yeah – you know my blog page name isn’t a joke – we are usually always late). As we approached the house, I didn’t notice the cars in front of their house – all except my friend Audra’s blue van. I love the color of her van and it stands out! By the time we pulled into the driveway, I said to Cy, “Oh man Cy, are they having something for us?” And his reply was, “I don’t know, let’s go see”. Sure enough, we opened the door and I saw Lauralee and then saw Audra doing what she does best - flashing her camera like a paparazzi! She was taking pictures of the “ WOW, Wendy is shock looks” – but then, as I turned to my right, looking into the living room….I just burst into tears! There standing were the most amazing women of my life – all my friends, plus my mom! You know I’m pregnant so the rush of hormones just exploded in me and I was in total shock and awe! I was filled with over-whelming joy and excitement. I couldn’t believe how many of my friends where jam packed like pickles in the living room. I was truly surprised! I mean, really – I even bought Lauralee a housewarming gift, wrapped up and everything. I honestly did not know nor had any inkling about the shower. Everyone was amazed at how well no one “spilled the beans” to me.

They had been planning my surprise shower since December. They pulled it off and got me – and GOT ME GOOD! Everyone was in on it – including my three wonderful sisters who are scattered around the world. Rhojon is in Germany and she sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. It made the table even more beautiful. Lani is in Japan and she sent an awesome diaper cake – but it didn’t arrive in time, and then my little sister Amy who resides on Maui. She sent an animal blanket and eco-friendly bag. When Evan was born, Amy sent him an animal blanket and he still sleeps with it. Now Jacob will have one of his own. To top it off…each of my sisters had been in contact with my good friend Audra and they had written a personal letter to me saying how much they wanted to be at the shower. Lots of tear-jerking gushy stuff. I didn’t read the letters out loud at the shower, but I did read the beautiful poem Lani wrote about us - Four Sisters. I was crying, my mom was crying, and I think just about everyone in the room had tears trickling. My sisters are amazing and I so wished they were physically there. But you know what, in all three letters – they stated how blessed and fortunate I am to have sister-friends in my life who love me, be there for me and would put this all together – just as they would have if they lived nearby. My sisters are right! I am so grateful and I’m truly blessed to have close sister-friends here in South Carolina. I love surprises and love surprising others. That was the best, by far the best surprise ever!

If you’re reading this blog…again, there are not enough words to describe how much love I felt on Sunday. I can’t call out everyone’s name, but I know Audra out-did herself with planning and prepping (invitations, contacting my sisters, etc.), as well as Lauralee opening up her home to have the party, plus all the ladies who bought food, my mom, my three sisters and including my sweet Cy who made sure not to spill the beans, and made sure to get me there. So much hard work and effort for little ol’ ME! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

I don’t have pictures…but lots were taken. SCRATCH THAT - I see Audra has posted a picture of me on facebook. More to come! I’m sure Audra will give me a copy of them so I can share them. For now, here’s the beautiful invitation Audra created.

And I’ve also included a rather funny picture of Jacob taken at 33 weeks. It’s not his penis. Yep – you guessed it! It’s a little baby birdie flicking us off! Guess he wasn’t pleased by getting his picture taken. Hah!!

Randomness

Thoughts have boggled my mind of so many different things. Figured I should at least type them out so that I don't loose my marbles. :)

I'm about 6.5 weeks left until Jacob joins our family. So much to do, and so little time. I read daily mom blogs online - other mom's who are due around the same time as me and it appears that I'm way behind on preparation. We finally got the crib out of the basement and upstairs, but still haven't assembled it. Thankfully, we finished transitioning Evan's room from his loft bed to a regular bed. I'll have to post some pictures of his room. He's got a big room, but it looks even bigger without the slide or loft bed in there. He really likes his new safari bedding. We even put his dry-erase board up and also a cork board for his paintings. The boy loves art! We also switched dressers too! He knows how to put his own clothes away now...which is and will be a big help once Jacob arrives. A few months back, we started testing Evan on how well he can take a shower on his own. He has managed and can do it ...except with the help of washing his hair and me reminding him to don't forget to wash his armpits and other body parts. It never fails, his response is, "Oh, yeah". He's squeaky clean by the time he's done. Another PLUS to having a 4 yr. old who is growing up and starting to do things like a big boy. I'm grateful since I don't have to stand there or watch him because he knows what to do and is persistent on doing it on his own.

This whole week Cy has been spending time downstairs in the basement with the Green Monster. From the time he gets to work to the wee hours of the night. It has become a MONSTER just learning to fix those "little things" every time something goes wrong. If its not one thing, its another. He has done an excellent job getting our house nice and warm, and has worked really hard at assembling the Green Monster - joining it to our HVAC system. He did all the duct work and broke the brick wall to gain access to our chimney for the flue pipe. I'm eager to see our electric bill, since we haven't had to start the heat pump at all this week. I'm sure our bill will go down - but I wonder just how much.

I'm pretty nervous about this pregnancy. Because this is our second child, you would assume it would be pretty easy going. It is to some extent, but this pregnancy is little different for me. I'm more nervous since I know all what will happen when the time comes to give birth. Plus, I'm so worried about trying to juggle time with Cy and Evan, plus adding Jacob to the mix. I know, I know....I'm such a worry-wort. I shouldn't let these things get to me and let God handle it all. I know that. But, it's my flesh talking and it's just my personality. I know it'll all work out.

I realize I have lots to do before I take maternity leave from work. Taxes are due at the end of this month, so I'll be doing my W2's magic for my job. Always challenging for me since the forms are so tedious. I don't think my job "gets it" when it comes to recreating something from scratch. I also have to train a temp before I leave. Now that's not hard to do, but preparing and getting the right temp is somewhat challenging. I was successful four years ago when I went on maternity leave for Evan. So, I'm sure I'll do fine this time around. There are so many people without jobs now, the sad part about getting a temp, is that I will return to work and when I do, we would have to release the person. Which is sad, b/c jobs are so scarce nowadays. I'm blessed and thankful to have a job. Wish it was easy for everyone else.

I'm excited about my last crop tomorrow. I have so many pics to crop and need to finish Evan's ABC Album. It'll be a surprise gift to him from me. I plan on giving it to him at the hospital. It'll be neat to see him looking at it, b/c he already likes to look at my other scrapbooks. I must say, I don't have too many hobbies that keep me going, but scrap booking is my nitch. Just putting the photos together lets me reminisce on how much we have grown as a family. I look back at the days where it was just Cy and I and think - man, that was such a long time ago. And then I look back at Evan's baby pictures and it just melts my heart to see that he was once a tiny, tiny baby. Awee...

Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year - 2010

It's a New Year! Lots of things in store for me and my family this year! Looking forward to the new and wonderful blessings in this coming year. I hope the same to all my readers!

It was pretty quiet for us on New Years Eve. We put Evan down to sleep about 10ish. Last year he stayed up to watch the ball drop with us, he was pretty grumpy. So, this year -- we ended up lighting up some fireworks, then got him ready for bed. Since being out from school, he has been slacking on his naps - that includes New Years Eve. No complaints from him - he went straight to bed. I too got ready for bed and laid down a bit. I guess all of my day activities had wiped me out. In the meanwhile, Mr. Early was enjoying his time sipping on some cheap wine and catching up on his pre-recorded mechanic shows on TV. About 11:45 - I awoke and went into the living room to join Cy. About 8 minutes later (before midnight), my parents dropped by and watched the ball drop too. Yeah... it was very relaxing - not having to entertain or go out.

Spent all day Saturday at home. I couldn't believe it. WE STAYED HOME - didn't go anywhere! Hadn't done that in a very long time. We did get lots of things done. I ended up packing up all our Christmas decorations. And we also knocked down Evan's cool bed to a regular twin bed. He doesn't have his slide attached to his bed anymore. Being this is the 2nd day of no slide -- he has said he really liked his new bed. Even told our waitress at Hudson's Smokehouse that he got a new bed. So, I guess he really does like it! This is the transitioning part for him. We want to get him acclimated to his new room setup before his little brother arrives next month. I must say, he has adjusted to this pretty well. The other thing I did was get the laundry room/craft room/scrap booking closet organized. I'm going on another crop this coming weekend and need to get my stuff organized. Still working on Evan's ABC album and plan to give it to him when we're at the hospital. It'll be a little gift to him from me. I need to get cranking. I'm only on the letter J.

As I type this - Cy is down in the basement messing with our new wood burning furnace he installed. Wait, wait -- I take that back - he was outside chopping wood or getting more wood for the furnace. He has literally worked on it all day today. From the time we got home from church this morning till now. He's been non-stop. We are hoping this will bring our electric bill down, down, down. I took some pictures, but will post them tomorrow. Forgot my usb cord at work.

Well, now I hear him in the kitchen - better go check on him. He's starting to dwindle down and that means cuddle time on the couch with him. :)

Gute Nacht!

TGI - FRIDAY!!

Well, after two weeks of madness...I'm still alive. :) I can't believe it has been two weeks since I last posted a blog and that was about Thanksgiving. We are well into the Christmas holiday's now! Where has the time gone?

We had a great Christmas party at our house last Wednesday. Our house was picture perfect with Christmas lights trimming all around throughout the house. I have a few pictures...but it kinda came out a little dark. I'll need to photo shop them and will post them later. Most everyone came, except three other couples. Not bad for 28 people in our house. It turned out great and I think everyone had a great time - even the kids.

We did our annual family event this year and went to the Carolina Carillon Holiday Parade last Sat. Didn't stay for the whole thing since Evan had kids production practice at church. Then afterwards, we headed home and got in a good nap. I cherish those times....soon we'll have an addition to our family and right now....I'm loving that we just have one child to take care of. I hear it's a bigger challenge when you have more than one. Evan, by far, has been a big helper. We have been talking about how he'll be a big brother and since he's at a good age - he understands the responsibility (I hope). I'm sure he'll do fine. So far, he's really great with our friend's kids who have little infants. We will have to see!

Speaking of another addition - I had my three-hour glucose test yesterday. Ugh! Talk about time just ticking by. I got there at 7 am and didn't get done until 10:45ish. Four pricks/viles of blood drawn on every hour, sitting with a mask over my mouth so I don't get any germs from other patients who are in the same room with me getting other lab work done. It was not fun at all. There was another pregnant woman there and her husband was with her. I thought...geez...poor guy having to be there. What is he going to do? Then she complained about being sick and she asked for some water, which they gave her ice chips instead. I guess it didn't help too much, because half an hour later, the nurse asked if she wanted to lie down on a bed. Now, here I was - the same due date as this girl and I was doing the exact thing as her....but I thought to myself, okay Wendy - you can do this. You don't need ice chips just b/c she has some. I too wasn't feeling good and the chairs in the office was super uncomfortable. I shouldn't complain. This is my second child for goodness sakes! I held my head high, sucked it up and dealt with it. I managed to make it, but boy was I super hungry afterwards. A mighty woman I was!! :)

Anyway, I'm off to pick Evan up and then to a birthday party. Woo hoo! This weekend we're going to another family tradition -- seeing the Christmas production at First Baptist Church downtown. :) And then Evan will do his little performance at church on Sunday. Then next week we have loads of other events from a homeowners meeting dinner, to Winter Festival for Evan's school and then my company Christmas party. Can you see... I WILL BE BUSY NEXT WEEK!!

Love and Peace to All!

Thankful!

I'm on day #3 with the Thanksgiving foods. Only TWO MORE DAYS till the actual day, and boy I am wiped out with stuffing my face with the delicious turkey, ham, broccoli casseroles, mash potatoes, green bean casseroles, etc. You name it, I've had it and already eaten way before the Thanksgiving holiday! I have had my small group dinner, then my work lunch, and then today's lunch.

Today, I was happy to enjoy a Thanksgiving lunch with Evan and all of his school buddies. Cy joined us too! It was really nice to eat and chat with other parents. It's so cute when I'm walking around the school and some of the kids say, "Hi, Evan's Mom" to me. I know Evan does the same thing to other mom's and dad's. Very cute!

This morning, we had a good start with a good meal - PANCAKES! Cy made his pancakes, per Evan's request and I sat and enjoy some too! Again, if you didn't read my previous blog entry - read it. Cy came up with a unique way of making these pancakes extra special. Check it out:

Evan loved it and ate it all up! Here's another picture of Cy making pancakes and his way of checking to make sure its cooked - using his own temperture sensor gun. Yeah, such a guy!

I'm thankful for a wonderful family who loves me for me. Especially those who have children who despise the mornings and just seems to move like a sloth when they should be a roadrunner?

I believe Cy has found a solution for a quick and easy breakfast for Evan. When it comes to the M-F morning routine, Cy is in charge of getting Little E ready...which includes waking the boy up, breakfast, brushing his teeth, and changing into his clothes. In the meantime, I'm getting ready for work and will make E's lunch in between. Everything is timed. Hey - I can't help it if I'm that organized. :)

Okay - getting back to Cy's breakfast solution. We went to Kroger's on Sunday...gathering up for dinner meals and such. Low and behold - Cy sees the most clever thing ever. Pancakes in a Redi-Whip type canister. I was busy looking at Sister Shupert bread, so I didn't think anything of it. Cy kept saying, look at this...this is cool. Man, this will make life a little easier in the morning for me. Finally, I turned my attention to him after he mentioned it being organic and read the ingredients. I thought - wow, that is actually cool. Then I asked him how much was it. He didn't say...I knew right then it was costly. I'll admit it people - Cy is frugal and I'm one to follow. I checked the price - $4.99. "Heck no...we are not getting that, I said. We can buy a box of Aunt Jemimah's or Bisquick for less then that and make over 1000 pancakes."I told him, not a good idea, turned around and went to the next lane. He didn't follow. I could hear him thinking about it (making gesture noises) and could see his brain just churning. Little E was singing, "I'm cold, I'm cold, it's cold over here, Mommy, where are you?".... then I hear Cy saying out loud, "I'm getting this, I will be responsible for the finances for this decision, Evan you're going to have some cool pancakes tomorrow." Hah! I didn't want to argue, I just said okay.

Cy made the pancakes this morning - talk about EASY PEASY! I even sat down to eat some. And boy, they were good! So all you busy mom's out there who needs a quick breakfast and a change from your normal breakfast routine, even though cereal and milk is quick -- try Batter Blaster! We did, and it was YUMMY!

Who ROCKS?

The Thanksgiving Holiday's have started for me already. On Wednesday, it was a huge blessing to share a meal with my small group. I truly enjoyed it and felt so blessed to be surrounded by people I love. My small group ROCKS!

Cy and I bought the turkey, ham, and a sweet potato casserole and everyone else completed it with sides and desserts. I can tell we all did good - we were all stuffed! We were so grateful for my parents watching Evan during this time. It has been a really long time not having to "worry" who watches Evan while we have time to ourselves. Mind you, we have wonderful friends who have watched Evan and greatly appreciate it. But when its family watching your kid - its different. I'm sure some of you can relate. When we got home, Evan was asleep and tucked in bed already. My Parents ROCK!

I was up this morning at 4 am, catching up on last weeks Grey's Anatomy episode, while eating leftover ham from our small group dinner, and rice. I even ate a Chess Square for my dessert. Yes - a complete meal eaten at 4 am. If I wasn't pregnant, I'm sure I would've been snoozing at this time or waking up to go to the gym. BUT GUESS WHAT? I am pregnant and its acceptable to do "weird" things such as that. Hah! I'm already starting to have some weird and funky dreams too! It's funny how I don't remember doing this when I carried Evan. I am so eager to find out how this little boy will look. If he'll be like Evan when he was a baby. Will he look like Evan - having lots of hair when born (looking like a Japanese bombucha baby)? Or because of Cy's background...will he have curly afro hair? Only the Lord knows and I can't wait to see how our cute baby burrito will be. Only 17 more weeks to go. Seems like a long time to me. But, I'm sure it'll go fast. Especially with the holiday's rolling in.

We are slowly making some progress at our house. Though lots of things need attention, we are focusing on priorities. Like the ditch that surrounds the front and back of the house. Well, it's our french drain in progress. Cy has been working on this project for quite some time now. Every weekend so far has been somewhat interrupted from bad weather to other committed activities. It has been a process. He had to dig and make a ditch, literally lift/jack-up the front corner of the house due to foundation settlement, then mortar loose bricks, then he stuccoed quarter of the wall. The next thing is to put the french drain in - adding the pipes and rock, then finally push all the dirt back into the ditch so that it'll look like nothing ever happened. Oh, another thing he had to do before digging was dig out the beautiful bushes that surrounded the front of the house. We're hoping that they haven't died since they have been uprooted for a while. We put them in plastic bags and we plan to put them back where they were. So, like I said...it's been a process. I'll mention the other projects later. For now...the french drain is our #1 priority. :)

It amazes me how much house projects/renovations my husband does. He's my Handy Manny and I'm so blessed to have a wonderful husband who has the talent to do all this. Cy ROCKS!

Have a great weekend and enjoy this SC weather. Woo-hoo! This has been the busiest week for us. I'm so glad its Friday...and its the end of the month too! I'm not fond of October. It seems like a long month to me and well, there are no holiday's. For me - halloween IS NOT a holiday.

Growing up, my family always went to the fall festival at church. I can't remember when I ever dressed up and went trick or treating in a neighborhood. Now that I have a child of my own, we're doing a little bit of both. We had our rOctober Fest (aka Fall Fest) at our church last Sunday and had a blast. Evan dressed up as a gorilla. Every year so far, he has been an animal. A giraffe, lion, kangaroo, turtle, and this year - he's a gorilla. At the rOctoberfest all small groups participated in the chili cook off. I must announce - our table won BEST OVERALL and also thanks to Carl, Hottest Chili awards! It was great!

rOctober Fest - Marriage Enrichment Group

Yesterday, Cy volunteered to paint primer on the front-face of a building for Evan's school. Since Cy was there, he picked Evan up too! That was nice, since Evan has been "dying" to show daddy his new trick on the monkey bars. I'll post some pics at the end of this blog. I headed home, stopping off at Chickfila to pickup dinner. When the arrived at home, it was hussle and bussle our tails to get ready to go to Boo @ the Zoo. This is our first year going, and our friend's were kind enough to get our tickets. It wasn't too crowded, and we all had fun. The most fun Evan had was at the foam station. Boy, was he soaked afterwards! We got home at a reasonable time, and managed to put Evan down for bed by 9:15. He woke up with a good attitude, however, he also woke up in our bed! Lol....he said he was scared and when I checked the clock, it was like 5:30 am this morning. So, he jumped in the bed with us. This was the first time he's ever done this -- since Evan is a super-duper sleeper. Must have been the excitement he had at the zoo.

Evan's new trick - hanging upside down - no hands!

Evan at the Foam Station - Boo @ the Zoo

Evan had a halloween party at his school this morning and I volunteered to bring a snack. It felt good being mommy-homemaker and making something for his class. Considering that I don't "celebrate" halloween, the snack I made was very appropriate and cute for Pre-K and Kindergartners. Can you guess what they are?

Snack for Evan's class: Spiders!

Gorilla Evan and his teacher, Ms. Debbie - a skeleton

Hope everyone has a great weekend. We are expecting a little baby boy in March and we're pretty excited. Granted, I already have a boy, but having another one means a double blessing!

I'm so out numbered. Let's see, I'm married to the man of my dreams - my bestest friend EVER - and then together we have a sweet handsome boy - who is the SWEETEST BOY EVER - and then we have three cool cats, all males of course. So, that just leaves little ol' me. Wah!

I had mixed emotions of us having a girl. To me, it's scary...just not my territory. I mean, I have so many friends who have girls and I see how their girls act and just the difference between girls and boys is a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Anyway, we have a busy week this week. We have several leaks in our office due to the rain and the roofing guys just showed up to figure out what to do. I put trash cans under each leaking area...hopefully, they won't fill up by the end of the day.

Weekend went by fast. I finally, finally put my fine china in my china cabinet. We have lived at the Marley house for two years now and I just NOW did that. Better late than never. I'm starting to clean out the two closets in the guest room, since my parents have moved into their own house. I realized how much baby clothes I've kept and need to consolidate some. Brings back memories when I see some of Evan's baby clothes. My, how time flies!

On Saturday, we had a Community Car Care Day and it was very successful. I stood on the corner waving to people as they drove by - trying to convince them to come get a free car wash or car check. By the afternoon, my right arm muscle was aching from waving too much. Hah! I wonder if those girls in beauty pageants have the same aching arm feeling when they are on the runway or in parades?? My back started hurting too....so maybe its just my age or the weight I carry up front?? I'm sure none of the those beauty queens have that!

Drip...drip...drip... - the roofing guys just left. I overheard them say, they have to wait until it stops raining before they can do anything. Oh no - I hope I can stay awake. The sound of rain makes me sleepy and now its dripping even more. Oh well, I could go back to Starbucks and try the Peppermint Mocha they had listed on the menu or get another PSL - decaf of course. :)

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Wow - last night we had an amazing small group. We talked about communication and how the Holy Spirit reflects in you, through you, spreading to those that is around you. We also came together as a group to pray. It was wonderful to see us all being together as one praying to the Lord and bringing our cares and burdens to Him. It was pretty awesome!

When we got home from small group, I got Evan ready for bed (changed into PJ's & brush his teeth). He knew already that we weren't going to read books before going to bed since it was late. Funny how I've already instilled that in Evan. He knows when its late, plus I think he knew he was super tired. So, after about 10:30 - I contemplated on staying up to catch up on my already-recorded shows on my dvr recorder. I opted out and went to bed. I guess I too was tired, b/c once my head hit my pillow - I was a goner!

Small group was great - but that meant we got home late too! Not a favorite for Evan, b/c he looses sleep since he has to wake up to go to school. So, I knew what was in for me this morning. Cy had to work late last night and didn't join us. Matter of fact, he got home about 3 am this morning. So guess who else was snoozing this morning??

I got Evan ready (Cy usually does this while I get ready for work) - and was pretty proud that I got everything done (lunch made for Evan, snack for myself, breakfast made for Evan, got myself ready, etc). Then we were going to head out the door. I knew I would be a few minutes late for work, but I figured -- well, I think I can manage being a few minutes late. But then Cy jumped out of bed and said, I'll take Evan to school! Awesome!

So - seeing that I would be on time - I stopped off at Starbies this morning to get me a blueberry muffin (which btw - is super yummy). I couldn't resist...Pumpkin Spice Latte was listed on the menu. It must be fall!! Eekk..I haven't been in Starbucks in a while, so I thought umm....I wonder if they could make that a decaf - OF COURSE THEY CAN!!

Arrived a bit early to work, now sipping my PSL. Life is good!

Conversation with a 4 yr. old

Since Evan is learning about the body in school, we've had many conversations about body parts and where they are located and what each part is used for. It's quite cute to hear him talk about his heart and what it does. He even sings a song about scraping his knee or cutting his finger - loosing blood and platelets. He knows the whole song, but when he sings it....I can tell there's a few missed words. OH! Which reminds me about the funniest thing ever - I have to share this!

Over the summer, Evan was in the summer school program and they taught him some other songs. Songs, of course I've never heard of - or they were unfamiliar to me, however being that Cy grew up "hippie" he knew these songs (i.e., "Blowing in the Wind" and "The Yellow Submarine"). Well, there was this one song Evan sang, the beginning goes like - "Oats and beans and barley grows, oats and beans and barley grows" blah, blah, blah -- I can't remember the rest. But, having to hear him sing this just makes me think - What in the world? On our first parent/teacher meeting, one of the parents had asked if there was any way for us parents to get the lyrics of the songs the kids sing in school. She also said, it's very hard to comprehend what her child was singing, when she repeatedly sang, "Boats are mean and Marley's a hoe". THE WHOLE ENTIRE ROOM FILLED WITH LAUGHTER! Hilarious. I still don't know the whole song to "Oats and Beans" and we still haven't received the lyrics to the songs either.

Okay, real quick - getting back to Evan learning his body parts. In conversation about the lungs, he gestures what the lungs do (as he breathes in and out). Well, I said, "Evan, you have very healthy lungs. Do you know happens if you smoke?", he replies, "No, what happens?", I reply, "Your lungs turn black, and you can get sick and can also get cancer too". He was really like, yuck - black lungs. I emphasized on it b/c A) I don't want my kid to smoke - AT ALL and B) try to let him know that smoking is bad for you. So, now, when he sees someone smoking he is not ashamed to speak his mind out loud and will say, "Eww...look at that (lady or man) who's smoking, Mommy, his lungs will be black". And I say, "Yep - that's right, and smoking is bad for you, right Evan?" He agrees.

Just the other day, we were driving home from school and we were talking about birthday's - be it that my birthday was coming up. All of a sudden, as I was driving, he says, "Mommy, when I turn 7 years old, I'm not going to smoke, because smoking is bad." I COULD NOT HELP not to chuckle...and then he proceeded to tell me that none of his other friend's smoke at school. Thank goodness!

My Boy! What can I say? He makes me laugh!

Okay - for some ODD REASON, when I posted my birthday dinner picture @ Miyabi's (Sept. 24th, 2009), it comes up as a big red x. So, I'll have to figure it out later. Have a great weekend!

Blessing someone else

Today isn't just any other day. It's my birthday!! Woo hoo! At 12:01 this morning, my Cy turned his body towards me and said, "Happy Birthday Baby Cakes". Thankfully, I was barely awake and coherent and heard him and said, "Thank You". Then I turned over to my side and closed my little eyes. It's funny, how since we've been married - we have been doing the same exact thing to each other...wishing each other birthday wishes at midnight on each others birthday. It's sweet and thoughtful.

I started the day out with another Happy Birthday from my sweet boy Evan. Though he had his eyes closed, lying in his bed, daddy whispering in his ear to tell me "something" -- he blurted out "Happy Birthday Darby-Darby-Dump". That's his little pet name he calls me sometimes. I call him "Tweets". I'm sure you mothers out there have some nicknames for your kids too! It's a good start when Evan wakes up happy and willing to eat his breakfast. Sometimes we have those days where we have to get on him about getting up. It usually ends up with him crying, and moving even slower in the morning. It's very frustrating...and for Cy, it's worse, since he's in charge of getting Evan up, ready and out the door for school. I can blog about that in another blog entry, but I'll spare you.

I made some birthday brownies, and took them to work - sharing the love to my coworkers; at least to the ones who are in the office. :)

My day is going well and frankly, got a little bit better after I went to Publix this morning. Our Pepsi machine at the office is out of soda, so I had to make a mad dash to Publix. Got what I needed, then waited in line. This guy was in front of me and had lots of baby food jars. Oh, how I remember those days. Anyway, long story short, we had a few words between each other about baby stuff, yada, yada, yada. Turns out his credit card wasn't working, so he told the cashier he would be back. Well, it was my turn and the lady started ringing me up and so forth. So, I asked her how much was that guys stuff, she told me and I said, you know what - Let me bless that man, I'll pay for his stuff. She was like, really? I said, yeah, here, let me pay for it, but don't tell him who paid. So, I did and the bagger took the guy's bags to him (he was near the doorway or something on his phone). He kept asking who paid for his stuff, blah, blah, blah - the bagger gave in and pointed to me and I was walking out the door. BUSTED! Well, he was so thankful and kept saying, no, you can't do that - blah, blah, blah. I told him I wanted to bless him, and not to worry about it. And he kept saying no. Turns out, he's the owner of this new pizza place near my work and he gave me his card and said - consider this a gift certificate! So, while I was blessing him, he turned around and blessed me back!! Is that how its suppose to work? LOL! It was all good...

My birthday keeps getting better and better! When I got back to work, I was greeted with a wonderful surprise. A beautiful plant delivered from my parents. Thanks Mom and Dad! So "Hawaiian" looking. Hah! Can't wait to have a yummy birthday dinner at Miyabi's Japanese Steakhouse tonight. I'm actually excited that Evan will be going too! The last time he went to a teppanyaki sit down -- he freaked out! So, now that he's older...I'm sure he'll be alert and will have fun watching the chef cook our food in front of us. I'll blog about that later!

Here's the picture of my beautiful flower plant my parent's sent me. And the other photo is of Evan with a baby Alpaca. I took this last month - Ms. Lynn (Evan's previous sitter) has neighbors who have Alpaca's. Well, one of them was pregnant and we had a chance to see the new baby Alpaca. She was so cute and soft.

Who's your acorn?

Well, I'm ready for the fall -- come on already!!

This morning, as I was getting ready for work, Evan came running into my room - jumped into my bed and hid himself under the covers. I can tell the boy did not want to wake up! I greeted him with a morning hug (he's still under the covers) and was so tempted to jump in the bed too! He was so warm...I told him he was an acorn, and I'm the squirrel. I'm going to bury him until the spring! His reply, "okay mommy". We have tons of squirrel's in our yard due to the many trees that surround our house. And those trees have lots of acorns. The squirrels have daily parties at our house. We know, because we hear them up on our roof just prancing away and then occasionally, we hear acorns dropping. Either there's a squirrel up in the tree shaking the branches, or the squirrels have dropped their acorns on our roof. I'm telling you...there's plenty to go around!

Boy, I wish I was a bear so that I can hibernate. I know as the weather gets cooler, I'll be the one still in the bed not wanted to get up.

I'm thankful for a short work week. We have tons of stuff going on this weekend. Actually, we've been quiet busy these past few weekends. Cy has been working on putting in a new drainage field in our backyard. Poor guy...he's worked so hard. He has been up before the sun rises and doesn't come back into the house until well after dark. Last night he got in at 1:30 this morning. I know we're saving a lot of money doing this work ourselves - removing four huge trees, trenching ditches, cutting concrete, pounding asphalt pavement, installing new PVC drain pipes from our septic tank, etc. We've saved thousands of dollars doing it and I know in the end, we'll be a happy family again. Just two more days until it's over!!! I'll post some pics on my Picasso picture site. Check it out:

I'm doing my part by staying out of the way and watching Evan. Well, Evan and I did help out a little bit on Sunday. Who's going to move the big tree branches out of the way? Somebody has to do it! So, after taking our Sunday nap - Evan and I ventured out to the backyard and helped drag the branches to the street. It was a good bit and I tell you, I was wiped out afterwards. We were pretty proud of ourselves and stayed out until dark. While we did that, Cy continued to move the big tree trunks out of the way. He used the bobcat for that job!

There's so much stuff going on....it'll be a while before I can get you all up to speed on my life. Until next time - who's your acorn?

Blogs! Blogs! Blogs!

So, I've been keeping up with my daily blogs. Well, not MY OWN personal blog, but other peoples blogs and they have inspired me. I need to get to it! I'll try my best to write random, not-so-meaningful thoughts about life. I just feel I don't have the time to do it. But, I'll try.

Most recent funny thing my son Evan has said. I was holding our friend's baby, Joseph and I asked Evan to look at him asked if Joseph was cute. Evan's reply, "Yes, he's cute, can I pet him?". And he said it with a serious face. Of course I burst out laughing...b/c dude - we have cats and everything that is small in hand, Evan relates to our cats - particularly Pickles. So, that's a funny that will go in his scrapbook!

I'm excited about going somewhere in August. Not sure WHERE we're going, but we're going somewhere! LOL... From the blogs I've read, everyone has been going to the beach. I too would like to go to the beach - just as long as its a beach where I can see my feet in the water. The only place on the east coast is Florida. So, maybe we'll go to FL. Who knows...I do know I want to get away.

I know, this is a boring blog entry. It's almost 4:30 and I'm on empty right now. I'm drinking 6 hour old coffee that I had to reheat a few times. That's how bad it's been today. Tick, tick, tick...time to go pick Evan up. :) Woo hoo!

Okay - so I tried to attach a picture with this post, but it doesn't seem to be working. Oh well..I'll try again tomrorow.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://mrearly.com/blog/2009/07/blogs-blogs-blogs.html' title='Blogs! Wow - 4 years has just flown by. Actually, he doesn't officially turn 4 until 9:26 pm tonight. But hey, let him enjoy his day.

He woke up this morning in a very good mood. He said, "I'm FOUR" - today is my birthday. It was so cute. I reminded him that now that he's four, he's even a bigger boy and four-year olds don't suck on their thumbs. Yeah, way to go me -- tactfully using child psychology on him. ;) He agreed and went on his merry way.

I made cupcakes (rainbow ones) for him to take to Ms. Lynn's house. When we arrived, there was a "Happy Birthday" sign and then another sign that said Happy Birthday Evan. So cute. She also decorates the house when its some one's birthday.

We head off to Chuckee Cheeses tonight for a dinner birthday. We're also meeting Evan's "twin" Greer and her family. Greer is four hours older then Evan. When they are together, its like having twins! In the past, we have had joined birthday parties for Greer and Evan. But this year, we scheduled it separately. Greer had her party at Monkey Business last Sat., and this Sat., Evan will have his at our house. We're pretty excited....I'm still contemplating on making a cake or buying a cake. I planned on making a custom snake cake, but then Evan decided he wants a Hippo cake. He's into hippos now. Anyway -- what to do? You'll have to see....I'll post pics up after his party.

On another note...we are still looking for a van. Preferable a Toyota Sienna (yr. 2000 & up). Anybody know of anyone selling one locally? We'd travel maybe 2 hours radius from our house to find a good deal. Let me know.

Random Thoughts

Happy that my friend April had her baby. Welcome baby girl Piper Louise. I'm thankful that she had a great delivery.

Stayed up late last night and watched "The Dark Knight" - it was rather long & dark.

Oh, I'm happy that Cy shaved his head. Yes - for 48 hours he had blond hair. It was rather amusing. I couldn't believe he did that - but he did. Must be a "mid-life" crisis or something.

I find that Evan is growing and growing and getting bigger and bigger everyday. He's starting to answer back and well, gives some attitude too. I'm sure this is normal for a almost four year old.

I can't believe it'll be Easter already. Time is just flying by....

Our little garden is doing well, and the tomatoe plants and sweet banana pepper plant are also growing and doing well. We water them almost everyday.

That's all for random thoughts.

Pictures above are Cy bleaching his hair, Evan's reaction, the end results and "Garfield" shaved.

Below: Evan and Gigi - he put my pink pearl necklace around her head...poor girl!

Should I ignore it or say something?

Didn’t think anything about it until I got to work. I’m wearing green today. Frankly, I don’t care about St. Patrick’s Day. I definitely don’t have Irish in me at all. To me, it’s just another day. Note to self – don’t go to the Vista when St. Patty’s Day is celebrated. Over the weekend, we decided to get a bite to eat at Monterrey’s near my office. Uh – yeah – bad decision. Little did we know that the Five Points crowd were making their way to the Vista and already arrived. The waiter directed us to the back corner booth. We thought, hey, that’s cool. It’s in the corner – no sweat. WRONG! First next to us were a bunch of girls just gaggling over random stuff. Of course all dressed in green. Evan kept staring at the one girl who had a green headband on her head. Guess he was trying to figure out the bonging green clovers on her headband. Whatever.

The trouble became clear as soon as we reached our table. A group of six were sitting diagonally from us, and clearly they were all drunk. Cursing and foul language permeated from that table. I as a parent thought, hummm this isn’t good. My 3 year old is in his “repeat after me” stage, and it would be horrible, just horrible if he started repeating, WTF and what a B** all the time. Ah, yeah – no way. Did I mention we were super hungry? So, what’s a parent to do, but to say something. I told the waiter, um, I think we’re not going to stay. He asked why, I told him we hear some inappropriate language and its just not something I want my child to be hearing. He said, do you mean the table behind me. Yes, I said. He then said, I will talk to the manager and do something. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of it. I thought to myself, man – I remember when I was single and this stuff didn’t bother me. I just let it roll of my shoulders. Totally different when you have a kid. TOTALLY!

You know what happened next, right? The manager goes over to the table (thankfully, they were finished eating and just killing time to head to the next destination to get even more drunk), starts talking and then leaves. Next thing you know, the guy who is like totally wasted already gets even louder. Is making a scene, making comments such as asking which table is it, rude comments about Mexicans, etc. Ah – yeah, I’m not Mexican dude. One of girls chimes in and starts going at it. In the end - the left (thankfully). But then more drunk patrons started coming in for dinner. We finished our dinner and left. We exposed our son to such vulgar bad language. AAHHHHH!!

I DID SAY SOMETHING and felt better about it too!

Random Blog for February

Because its been FOREVER since I posted a blog - here's a little something to catch you up:

I can't believe its already the end of February. Do you know what that means? I only have 2 1/2 months to prepare for Evan's 4th birthday party. Now is it necessary to have a party? Of course - why not! I remember my childhood days, and honestly, I can't remember having very many birthday parties. I don't know why. Must not been too memorable for me. I'm sure my mother would say otherwise. I do remember one particular birthday I had when were stationed in Virginia. Had a Wonder Woman cake and I also remember donuts hanging on a string. I actually have a picture somewhere of this particular birthday. I'm unsure about Cy's childhood birthday's. I better make a mental note to ask him. In any case - I think its important to celebrate your child's birthday. It's a special day and it should be celebrated!

We've got a few things reserved so far...the hard part is inviting kids. Do I invite kids that Evan hangs out with all the time? Do I exclude those kids who are two years younger than him or six years older than him? What to do -decisions, decisions. I don't want to hurt any one's feelings, but hey - a party cost's money! Well, it's not May yet - so I still have time to ponder over this.

WINTER JAM - went and had a blast. See clip below of Brandon Heath singing "Give Me Your Eyes". The place was packed! Girls went wild over Hawk Nelson. TobyMac was the bombdiggity!

TAXES - Gosh - its seems like I just blogged about taxes. But it was about last years taxes. This year - I didn't complain too much about doing our company taxes. I think last years preparation helped me. So, now I'm struggling to get our own personal taxes together before we get someone to file them for us. Thankfully, a very, very good friend recommended her tax guy. I called him up and he said he would be available. That's that.

PICKLES - Don't think I mentioned Pickles who is our newest addition to our family. He is a pure breed Siamese kitten from Stow, MA. He is the cutest kitten ever! We have to take him to the vet tomorrow to get his rabies shot and also make an appointment to get him neutered. Certain indications (like grabbing the nape of Gigi's neck, who by the way is our old virgin female Siamese - she's 13 yrs. old) has lead us to believe the time is now to get him neutered. Plus, we hate to see him mature and then start spraying his territory. No way!

GO TO BED WITH A GLADIATOR (that's your husband - the gladiator) - This past Sunday I heard some good and helpful preaching about learning to respect your husband. A word was mentioned during the sermon and it was "emasculate". You don't ever want to emasculate your husband. What does this mean? The word means “to socially render a male less of a man" or “to make a male feel himself to be less of a man by subjecting him to humiliation”. Guess what chica's - we as wives need to encourage our husbands - DAILY! The bible says to in Ephesians 5:22. Go google it. We must be submissive to our spouse. Taken from the pastor's blog, you can do the following to help your spouse feel like a gladiator - not a wimp.

Go towards him and initiate a sexual encounter with him, and do it often, when he is not expecting it. This is number one, not just because he loves sex (though he does), but this is the ultimate way to communicate to him at the deepest level that you really desire him. And since he is a guy, you don't even need to take him out to dinner or put a bunch of time and energy in romance beforehand. Is that bad - it is true. Just spontaneously initiate with him, guys need this initiation from their wives.

Verbally affirm your respect for him by complementing him in ways he would want to hear it, not ways you would say it to another lady. (e.g. I really appreciate your hard work to provide for us, I really appreciate your care for me, etc.)

Resist the temptation to give him instructions on things he already knows how to do, this feels like mothering to him.

Brag on your husband in the presence of others, including your kids.

Offer and show interest in their interests and do some of those things with them. Men like to play so go and play with them, whether it is golf, fishing, biking, etc.

On a personal note, #3 is a little hard for me since we are still in the process of renovating our house.

FACEBOOK - Yeah - I'm on FB and have limited myself from this addicting website. I can't help but check on every one's status. It's such a waste of my time -but I like it.

DISNEY LIVE - I'm excited to see Evan's face when we take him to see Disney Live at the Colonial Center. He'll be seeing Mickey and his friends, Handy Manny and also Little Einsteins. An expensive event, I'm sure. It'll be fun for him and bonding time for all of us.

Well, until next time I get motivated to blog again...have a good one!

The start of 2009

Let's see...it's the new year already? I can't believe it! The month of December has just flown by and I didn't even get a chance to enjoy it! Well, I take that back. I did enjoy the visit from my sister and her family. They were here in SC for all but two days, but it felt longer than that to me. Then Cy's good friend Aleks came last Monday and left yesterday (Friday). That visit felt short to me. Probably b/c I was keeping busy and Cy did most of the entertaining and I kept watch over Evan.

For New Year's eve we jumped in the car at 8:50 pm and high-tailed to Finley Park. At 9 pm there was a fireworks display and we made it just in time. The fireworks hit our faces and it felt like they were falling right over us. It was a pretty scene and we enjoyed all 10 minutes of it. Yep - just 10 minutes. We quickly jumped back in our van (didn't want to get caught up in the jammed up cars heading out of the parking lots) and headed to Wally World. Needed to buy some ice cream to go with the brownies I made. Hardly anyone in there....typical crowd.

We decided to put Evan down and not let him stay up with us to watch the ball drop. He stayed up last year and was a great trooper. We knew it would be best to put him down early since he had an exciting day the next day at Ms. Lynn's (in-house daycare). I'll get to that after I talk about us bringing in the new year. So, it was me, Cy and Aleks at our house. They ate ice cream and brownies, while I enjoyed fresh popped popcorn. I love popping my own corn on the stove. It's the best! We flipped channels between Dick Clark and the other station who was celebrating in Vegas. I feel bad for Dick Clark. It was hard to concentrate on what he was saying due to his health condition. He just looks like he's going down hill. He just needs to retire. Then you got Kelley Pickler in her southern accent and I have no clue what was up with her eyes..she had some weird looking makeup on. It was either watching that or Miley Sirus' New Year's Eve show. I made it and stayed up to watch the ball drop! Cy busted out the bottles of champagne we had received as a gift from someone oh, say three years ago ( it was Brut dry and Extra Dry). I'm not a drinker and toasted in the new year with a glass of water. About 12:15 am - I told the boys I'm off to bed. When I woke up, I found out Cy and Aleks finished off BOTH BOTTLES and didn't get to bed until 3 am. Bummer for them. They were hurtin', but I was more thankful that those bottles were gone. Got really tired of seeing them way in the back of the cabinet. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to get rid of those bottles long time ago. But see, I'm married to Cy. Cy - the one who throws NOTHING AWAY! Nothing. I won't go there...onto Evan's excited day!

As a Christmas gift to us and some other parents, Lynn decided to have a sleep over at her house. YES! A break from kids. And boy, we took full advantage. Dropped Evan off at 4:30 pm and were told to pick him up the next day by noon. Cy and I went out to dinner, hung out at Barnes and Noble, shared a cup of coffee at Starbucks then headed to Blockbuster to rent a movie. We agreed to watch Indiana Jones. It wasn't a bad movie. Afterwards, we got a second wind and started cleaning up. Cy's other friend Andrew was due the next morning. Had to cleanup the guest room again. Aleks was just in there, so I had strip the bedsheets off, clean the bathroom, etc.You know how that goes...

Andrew drove from Virginia and was stopping for a day/night before heading off to Texas. As I type this - he and Cy are watching football. Andrew leaves tomorrow. Then in another two weeks, Cy's aunt is driving from MA to visit us for a week.

So, as you can see - I've been busy. I didn't even set any new year resolutions either. Well, I did in my head, but it helps to physically write them down - that way I can follow through with them. Maybe I'll do them tomorrow after church. I'll at least have some time then. I'm hoping to have a nice relaxing Sunday. It's been a while since I've had a nice relaxing Sunday.

For a change, this blog is super long. I better cut it off now so that readers like you can get on with your life. I've let you in my little life for this long....stay tuned for more! Happy New Year!

Pictured Cy, Evan & Aleks @ Wild Wings

November 4th, 2008 - Election Day

This morning, it took me 4 minutes from my house to Lynn's house (Evan's sitter), then 10 minutes from Lynn's to downtown Columbia. What's happening? The only action I saw from the road was the long line of voters in front of Eau Clare HS. God Bless them!

On the morning news, they showed pictures of the long lines at the polls. I'm thankful that I'm NOT in those lines today. Cy and I voted earlier two weeks ago. It was a "spur-of-the-moment" kinda thing and I'm thankful we decided to do that. Now, we can sit and relax and just wait for the outcome. Boy, I'm ready for this election to be over. All the hoopla talk about Obama and McCain has just been a whirlwind. I thought I left "politics" when I moved from the DC Metro area to South Carolina - NOT!

Now I'm at work and out of 18 employees - we only have six here in the office. Everyone else must be standing in those long lines I saw on TV this morning. The benefit of voting today? You get a "I VOTED" sticker once you're done. Then you can take advantage and go to Starbucks - they'll give you a free cup of coffee if you show them your sticker. WOW! And I hear that Krispie Kreme is handing out free donuts too! I think its a privilege and honor to vote. If you are still undecided -- then you've got issues. Again - with all the hoopla and talk about the running candidates -- HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR??

If you have stumbled on this blog and voted already - GOOD FOR YOU! THAT'S AWESOME!
If you have stumbled on this blog and haven't voted yet - MAKE SURE YOU GO AND VOTE! The SC polls close at 7 pm tonight. Don't forget your valid ID - they will be checking.

Peace!
